In a remarkable debut, MG’s latest electric vehicle, the MG4, has already secured over 26,000 orders within just 15 days of its launch in China. This impressive figure not only exceeds the company’s initial monthly production target of 15,000 units but also highlights the growing demand for electric vehicles in the market.
To address this surge in orders, SAIC Passenger Vehicles has swiftly implemented a three-shift production schedule. This strategic move aims to ramp up output while ensuring that the quality of each vehicle remains a top priority. Amidst the excitement, MG has also rolled out a new initiative known as the “Peace-of-Mind Delivery Commitment.” This program guarantees that if a customer’s vehicle is not delivered within 39 days of order confirmation, the company will compensate them 50 yuan (approximately $7) for each additional delayed day, with a maximum compensation of 2,000 yuan (about $280).
Launch and Specifications
The MG4 was officially unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2025, and it comes in five distinct trims, with a limited-time pricing ranging from 65,800 yuan (around $9,140) to 99,800 yuan (approximately $13,860). Built on SAIC’s E3 pure electric platform, the MG4 is designed as a compact electric hatchback, featuring a six-in-one integrated electric motor that delivers a maximum output of 120 kW and a top speed of 160 km/h.
Battery Options and Performance
Customers can choose between two battery options: a 42.8 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) pack or a larger 53.9 kWh version. The driving ranges for these batteries, according to the CLTC standards, are 437 km and 530 km, respectively. Both configurations support fast charging, enabling a charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. Additionally, the top-tier Anxin Edition is equipped with a semi-solid-state battery.
Design and Interior Features
Measuring 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, the MG4 boasts a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The vehicle’s exterior features a modern front fascia with illuminated MG branding, arrow-shaped rear lights inspired by the MG Cyberster, and a selection of six body colors. The entry-level models come fitted with 16-inch wheels, while higher trims are upgraded with stylish alloy wheels.
The interior of the MG4 incorporates SAIC’s co-developed MG x Oppo Smart Connectivity system. Depending on the trim, the vehicle can be equipped with a central infotainment screen measuring either 10.25 inches, 12.8 inches, or 15.6 inches, along with a digital instrument cluster. The higher-end versions are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and Horizon Journey J6e platform, enabling advanced features such as high-speed Navigation On Assist (NOA), lane-keeping assistance, automated lane changes, and parking assistance.
Competitive Landscape
In the competitive compact EV segment in China, the MG4 faces rivals like the SAIC Volkswagen ID.3, which starts at 129,888 yuan (around $18,000), and the Baojun Cloud, priced from 95,800 yuan (approximately $13,300). With its impressive features and strong market response, the MG4 is poised to make significant waves in the electric vehicle landscape.
