As the automotive industry evolves, the spotlight is on innovative electric vehicles. BYD, a leading player in the electric vehicle market, is set to unveil its latest model, the Seal 06 DM-i wagon, at the 2025 Munich Motor Show on September 8. This debut marks an exciting chapter for European consumers looking for sustainable and stylish transportation options.
Already making waves in China, the BYD Seal 06 DM-i wagon is offered at prices starting from 109,800 yuan (approximately $15,400) for the base model with an 80 km electric range, escalating to 129,800 yuan (around $18,200) for the flagship version boasting a 150 km electric range.
Design and Practicality Combined
The Seal 06 DM-i wagon is based on its sedan counterpart, showcasing a striking station wagon body style that embodies BYD’s “Marine Aesthetics” design philosophy. This includes sleek LED headlights, a distinctive inverted trapezoid grille, and hidden door handles, all contributing to its modern aesthetic. With dimensions of 4,850 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm, the vehicle also boasts a drag coefficient of 0.284, enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency.
In terms of practicality, the wagon excels with a spacious trunk offering 670 liters of storage, which can expand to 1,535 liters with the rear seats folded down. It even comes equipped with a built-in refrigerator that can keep items warm, and features a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing it to serve as an external power source.
Interior Features and Comfort
The interior is designed with both comfort and technology in mind. It features a three-spoke steering wheel, a floating central touchscreen, and a column-mounted shift lever. The entry-level model includes a 12.8-inch central display, an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster, six speakers, six airbags, and heated and ventilated front seats. For those opting for higher trims, enhancements include a 15.6-inch screen, eight speakers, and advanced safety features such as the DiSus-C damping body control system.
Safety is further prioritized with the inclusion of BYD’s DiPilot 100 driver assistance system, which integrates 12 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and five millimeter-wave radars, enabling autonomous navigation on highways. However, European specifications for this model are yet to be finalized.
Performance and Efficiency
Powered by BYD’s fifth-generation plug-in hybrid technology, the Seal 06 DM-i wagon offers impressive performance. The base model features a 1.5-liter engine paired with a 120 kW electric motor, delivering 210 Nm of torque and achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.7 seconds. It consumes roughly 3.15 liters per 100 kilometers, with an 80 km electric range from its 10.08 kWh LFP battery. Higher trims utilize a more robust 160 kW motor, accelerating to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, and achieving an electric range of 150 km on an 18.71 kWh battery, consuming 4.25 liters per 100 km. The battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 25 minutes, and combined with a 65-liter fuel tank, the total driving range reaches an impressive 2,000 kilometers.
Although station wagons are less common in China compared to SUVs, the emergence of new energy wagons like the Zeekr 001 and Nio ET5 Touring indicates a growing market. With the introduction of the Seal 06 DM-i wagon, BYD aims to expand its plug-in hybrid offerings beyond its domestic market and cater to European buyers eagerly awaiting innovative electric vehicle options.
