In an impressive turn of events, Chery, a prominent player in the automotive industry, has reported that its export sales have outstripped domestic sales for the first time. In August 2025, Chery sold a total of 242,736 vehicles, with 129,472 of those being exported. This remarkable achievement represents 53.3% of their total monthly sales, showcasing a year-on-year increase of 14.6% in overall sales and an astounding 32.3% rise in exports.
This trend marks a significant milestone for Chery, which has now set a new record by exporting more than 100,000 vehicles for four consecutive months this year. Cumulatively, from January to August, the company has sold 1,727,299 vehicles, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 14.5%.
New Energy Vehicle Sales Surge
Diving deeper into the sales figures, Chery reported that it sold 71,000 new energy vehicles in August alone, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 53.1%. By the end of 2025, the total new energy vehicles sold by Chery reached 495,955, reflecting an impressive year-on-year growth of 81.8%.
Last year, Chery’s total sales volume reached 2.6 million vehicles, representing a 38.4% increase. For this year, the company has set an ambitious sales target of 3.5 million vehicles.
Brand Performance
The Chery Group currently boasts four major brands: Chery, Exeed, Jetour, and iCar. In August, the Chery brand alone sold 162,396 vehicles, bringing its total sales for 2025 to 1,078,626 vehicles to date. Exeed followed with 7,659 vehicles sold, accumulating to 77,149 for the year. Jetour contributed 54,179 vehicles, with total sales reaching 402,992. Meanwhile, iCar, noted for being the fastest-growing brand within the Chery Group, sold 4,820 vehicles, totaling 55,896 for the year with a remarkable year-on-year increase of 43.9%.
A Record of Excellence
Chery’s achievements don’t end there. The company has recently become the first Chinese automaker to exceed 5 million vehicles in cumulative exports by the end of July 2025. This feat also secures its position as the leading Chinese passenger vehicle exporter for 22 consecutive years, a testament to its growing international presence and competitiveness.
Additionally, Chery has been recognized for its quality and customer satisfaction. In the 2025 China Initial Quality Study (IQS), Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI), and Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout Index (APEAL) reports released by J.D. Power, Chery ranked first among Chinese automakers across all three categories, reinforcing its commitment to delivering quality vehicles.
